Key to the success of VHI’s work are partnerships with host communities. We schedule field programs only at the invitation of — and in collaborations with — local leaders, regional or national officials, or eye care or medical professionals.
We plan and implement four to five, week-long service trips each year, for which we recruit dedicated vision care professionals and highly-qualified personnel to volunteer their time, in order to deliver high-quality vision care to the local community. VHI field programs offer the experience of a lifetime. We work with people who have little to no access to eye care and are grateful for the high-quality care we provide.
Upcoming Field Programs
VHI will partner with the local Salish Kootenai Tribal Health for our first trip to provide vision care for those living on and around the reservation. We’ll do comprehensive eye exams and provide free sunglasses and eyeglasses to those in need.
VHI has worked closely over the years with the Serving at the Crossroads and Clinica Manos Amigas in La Entrada, Honduras to build capacity and provide vision care. This is one of two annual trips to La Entrada, where we will offer cataract and pediatric strabismus surgery, in addition to comprehensive eye exams and free eyeglasses.
