The hospital group will provide cataract surgeries, while the roaming group will visit surrounding towns and villages providing basic eye care, vision screenings, and measuring for prescription glasses.

Linden Hall is this country’s oldest girls’ boarding/day school. A dozen of its students, assisted VHI in and around Riobamba, performing pediatric patient follow up on a spring break trip.
Dr. Andrea Molinari from Ecuador has joined VHI to not only perform dozens of life changing surgeries, but to teach local doctors how to identify, treat, and operate on strabismus.
Many scholarships have been awarded to qualified operating room professionals.
Asked how she came to be a VHI volunteer, this invaluable team member said, “I wouldn’t be here at all if it weren’t for the Nurse Scholarship.” Please support scholarships.
Strabismus surgery can help improve visual acuity. Yet it is not like cataracts where vision is restored. Its stigma can make people think someone with strabismus is less competent.

VHI is delighted to be returning Ecuador. Trips wil focus on developing an ongoing comprehensive pediatric ophthalmology program. We expect to perform 50-60 adult and pediatric surgical procedures. A team will also travel to various schools to screen and evaluate 200-300 students each day.
