VHI is excited to announce a new field program location in Villa Nueva, Guatemala, where cases of preventable blindness are high. Guatemala is one of the most populated and poorest countries in Central America, with more than half of its population living in poverty. VHI will partner with the Mayor of Villa Nueva to conduct field vision screening in schools and community centers around the city, and performing cataract and other surgeries at the Hospital Nacional de Amatitlan.
Project: Our eye campaign program aims to provide the Villa Nueva/Amatitlan region of Guatmeala with accessable vision health care for many years to come. The two- group program will be split with the hospital group providing cataract surgeries, while the roaming group will visit surrounding towns and villages providing basic eye care, vision screenings, and measuring for prescription glasses.
Vision Health International handles all in-country travel, lodging, and food expenses. In addition, VHI coordinates enough translators to assist our team, and will help you learn the basic medical terms in Spanish.
