Riobamba, Ecuador

Ecuador Project: VHI was delighted to return to Ecuador in 2013 after a more than 25-year absence. We now visit the clinic with our field programs 3-4 times per year, providing adult and pediatric ophthalmologic services.

Sponsoring Agency: VHI is collaborating with a local Ecuadorian foundation, FIBUSPAM, dedicated to improving the health and development of children who live in poverty and have limited or no access to health care. Their facility in Riobamba, Clínica FIBUSPAM, provides health care to children free of charge. The clinic provides general health screening, dental, eye and surgical care, prescribes and distributes medicines and has an on-site laboratory. The clinic organizes mobile clinics to outlying communities as far away as the Amazon and hosts Ecuadorian and foreign medical teams. The clinic opened in August of 2007 and to date has treated over 15,000 patients.

FIBUSPAM is also a nonprofit, 501(c)3 registered in the United States. For more information about the foundation, clinic and their work, visit
